Hailey Roberts posted a team-high 17 points including three 3-pointers Tuesday but it wasn't enough as the VCSU women's basketball team dropped an exhibition game to Minot State University, 72-58.
After trailing 23-5 after the first quarter, VCSU held the Beavers to just eight second quarter points to close the gap to trail 30-21 at halftime.
The Vikings opened the third quarter with a 7-3 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Roberts to get within five points at 33-28. Minot State shot 55 percent in the final quarter to secure the 72-58 victory and improve to 3-8 on the season.
VCSU shot 30 percent from the field Tuesday (16-54), 32 percent on 3-pointers (8-25) and 100 percent on free throws (18-18). Minot shot 40 percent on field goals (23-58), 32 percent on 3's (6-19) and 74 percent on free throws (20-27).
The teams were deadlocked at 32 rebounds apiece, and Minot State scored 24 points off 26 Viking turnovers Tuesday.
Adriana Torres added nine points and eight rebounds for VCSU and
Ellie Braaten added nine points and three assists.
Ashlyn Diemert,
Elyse Hebrink and
Olivia Backus each chipped in seven points Tuesday.
Minot's Taylor Goss scored 21 points to lead three Beavers in double figure scoring.
