DICKINSON – The Valley City State women's basketball team fell 91-49 to No. 14 Rocky Mountain College Saturday at Dickinson State's Sam Milanovich Classic.
The Bears opened the game strong and never looked back, shooting 49 percent in the game – including 56 percent in the second half – to remain undefeated on the season. Rocky Mountain improves to 7-0 while VCSU drops to 5-4 overall.
VCSU shot 30 percent from the field (14-52), 19 percent on 3-pointers (4-21) and 74 percent on free throws (17-23). Rocky Mountain shot 49 percent on field goals (36-74), 37 percent on 3's (7-19) and 60 percent from the free throw line (12-20).
Rocky Mountain also tallied 18 assists to just nine turnovers while VCSU recorded 10 assists to 25 turnovers in the game. Rocky Mountain held a 43-38 rebounding advantage leading to 13 second chance points.
Freshman
Delaney Cotton scored a team-best 10 points Saturday while going 2-for-2 on 3-pointers.
Katie Johnson added eight points while going 3-for-3 from the field, and
Ashlyn Diemert added six points for VCSU.
Adriana Torres and
Rosie Anderson led VCSU's rebounding effort with four rebounds apiece.
Rocky Mountain's Morgan Baird scored a game-high 22 points to lead five Bears scoring in double figures Saturday. Iliana Moran added 12 points while Dominique Stephens totaled 11 points and dished six assists for Rocky Mountain.
Ky Oliver chipped in 11 points, four assists and three steals, and Gracee Lekvold added 10 points and three steals for the Bears. Madeline Heggem led all players with seven rebounds in the game.
