Vikings take dominant sweep over Blue Hawks Tuesday

 
VALLEY CITY – The Valley City State volleyball team totaled 41 kills on a .376 attack percentage Tuesday night en route to a dominant sweep over Dickinson State by final set scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-17.
 
All of VCSU's players saw the court Tuesday night in a true team effort, helping the Vikings to an 18-4 record on the season and a 6-1 record in the NSAA. Dickinson drops to 1-18 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
 
"I'm so proud of the way everybody went in there and was aggressive tonight," said head coach Michelle Meiklejohn. "I'm very pleased with the way our offense stepped up with the rivalry match coming up tomorrow."
 
VCSU had 10 different players record at least a kill and 12 players record at least one dig. Bailey Nelson and Morgan Freije led the offense with 10 kills each. Defensively, JayCee Richter paced VCSU with 12 digs, Delani Clarke chipped in eight and Reagan Bogenreif posted seven.
 
The Vikings held Dickinson to just 24 kills in the match as the Blue Hawks recorded a negative attack percentage in each of the first two sets. VCSU's Danielle Hagler had a hand in four blocks while Freije and Morgan Nelson each had a hand in three.
 
Sadie Hansen recorded 31 set assists, and freshman Gracie Schumacher added six assists for VCSU. The Vikings also held a 7-3 advantage in service aces Tuesday, led by Hansen and Ellie Rush who recorded two service aces each.
 
Dickinson's McKenzie Moser recorded a team-best five kills on the night and Haydin Henschel totaled 10 digs for the Blue Hawks Tuesday.
 
UP NEXT: (RV) VCSU hosts rival No. 14 University of Jamestown on Wednesday at The Bubble. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
