ABERDEEN, S.D. – Freshman quarterback Noah Chambers had a hand in all four touchdowns, and the Viking defense turned in an impressive performance Saturday night as the Vikings picked up their first win of the season.
Chambers passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Valley City State football team defeated Presentation College 28-10 in Aberdeen.
The Viking defense forced three turnovers and held the Saints to just 229 yards of total offense in the victory.
Saturday night's game was a non-conference contest. The Vikings finished non-conference play with a 1-3 record and will have a bye week before beginning their conference schedule on Oct. 8.
Chambers finished first-half drives of 74 yards and 71 yards with short rushing touchdowns as Valley City State built a 14-3 lead in the second quarter. The Saints scored just before halftime to cut the Viking lead to 14-10, but VCSU put the game out of reach with two more scores in the third quarter.
Chambers hit Trent Finney for a 9-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, and then Faaris Amegankpoe had a 57-yard catch and run for the dagger touchdown. Amegankpoe's score gave the Vikings a 28-10 lead with 5:29 remaining in the third quarter, and VCSU's defense took care of the rest.
Georgia Mageo forced a fumble that Georgie Mageo recovered, and both Colton Taylor and Anthony Russell had interceptions. Georgia Mageo totaled two sacks, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble, and Jahidi West finished with a team-high seven tackles.
Chambers was 13-for-18 passing for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He also gained 37 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Justice Bice had a big game on the ground finishing with 129 yards rushing on 28 carries. Taylor Simmons added 33 yards on five carries. Amegankpoe had a career-best night with six catches for 117 yards and his first collegiate touchdown.
VCSU finished with 397 yards of total offense, including 206 rushing yards.
