VALLEY CITY – Viterbo's strong second-half pushed them ahead of VCSU as the V-Hawks went on to defeat Valley City State 93-75 Saturday afternoon at The Bubble.
Ashlyn Diemert scored 20 of her new career-high 21 points in the first half of the contest. The Vikings kept it close in the first half that featured 10 lead changes. Going into the break, Viterbo led narrowly by four points, but their balanced offense took over in the third quarter. The V-Hawks went 9-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 from beyond the arc to ultimately switch the momentum to their favor.
VCSU falls to 9-12 on the season and 6-5 in the North Star Athletic Association. Viterbo improves to 11-8 on the season and 6-5 in the NSAA.
VCSU shot 36 percent from the field (27-74), 29 percent from beyond the arc (10-34), and 68 percent free throws (11-16). Waldorf shot 62 percent from the field (28-45), 58 percent from beyond the arc (10-17), and 90 percent free throws (27-30). The V-Hawks held a 39-29 rebounding advantage over the Vikings, while the Vikings forced 29 V-Hawk turnovers.
Adriana Torres led all players with 24 points and added six rebounds. Diemert's career-high 21 points bested her previous high of 19 points against the University of Jamestown earlier this season. Taryn Dieterle also scored double-figures with 11 points and pulled down a team-high of seven rebounds. Allie Critchley filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven assists and six steals.
Viterbo's Ellie Hesley led four V-Hawks in double figures with 17 points and seven rebounds. Kacie Gross added 14 points and a team-high 3 steals. Chyna Young contributed 13 points and Brook Becker scored 12 points.
