Vikings defeated by #2 Jimmies Friday

JAMESTOWN – The Valley City State volleyball team fell in three straight sets to No. 2 University of Jamestown Friday, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-12.

The Vikings held the nationally ranked Jimmies to a .284 hitting percentage Friday night, which is just their third contest hitting under .300 this season.

Valley City State falls to 3-10 overall this season while University of Jamestown remains undefeated at 13-0 overall.

Sadie Hansen picked up her fourth straight double-double with 15 set assists and 11 digs Friday.

Caitlyn Fischbach led the Viking attack with seven kills, while Katie Juarez chipped in six kills. Kallene Klever added 13 digs and three service aces for VCSU.

Jamestown opened with a quick advantage Friday night as the Jimmies tallied 14 kills and forced nine Viking errors to take a 25-17 victory in the first set.

The Vikings gained momentum midway through set two, taking seven straight points including three aces by Kallene Klever to tie the game at 20-20. VCSU stayed in it with a kill from Bailey Nelson but Jamestown finished with four of the last five points to win 25-22.

Jamestown finished with their strongest hitting performance of the night, tallying 15 kills on a .375 hitting percentage to take the final set 25-12.

Jamestown's Kalli Hegerle finished with 11 kills while Kadyn Mehring and Aleah Zieske each added seven kills. Jackie Meiklejohn totaled a team-high 22 set assists and Megan Gaffaney tallied with 18 assists. Ellie Holen finished with 16 digs for the Jimmies Friday.

UP NEXT: Valley City State hosts Briar Cliff for its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 19. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Graichen Gym.
