VCSU winning streak ends in low-scoring game at Jamestown

VALLEY CITY – The Valley City State men's basketball team led by as many as five points in the second half Saturday afternoon but could not hang on during a low-scoring road game at No. 10-ranked University of Jamestown.

The Vikings held a 27-26 halftime lead and went up 38-33 early in the second half before Jamestown rallied back for a 66-59 victory.

Both teams were held to their lowest point totals of the season in Saturday's rivalry game. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Valley City State as the Vikings drop to 7-4 overall this season. Jamestown moves its record to 9-1.

The Vikings shot 40 percent Saturday, going 23-for-57 from the field. VCSU was 26 percent from 3-point range (5-19) and 62 percent on free throws (8-13). The Jimmies shot 45 percent overall (24-53), 32 percent on 3's (6-19) and 60 percent on free throws (12-20).

VCSU held a big advantage in turnovers, while the Jimmies controlled the glass. The Vikings forced 18 Jamestown turnovers while turning it over just 10 times themselves. Jamestown had a 45-25 rebounding advantage, including an 11-3 edge on the offensive glass.

Connor Entzi went 6-for-12 from the field and made two 3-pointers as he finished with 14 points for the Vikings. Joshua Kelly had eight points and four assists, while Eddie Oyet had eight points and four steals off the bench. Uhana Ochan, Kevin Schramm and Jalen Addison all had seven points each, while Addison added a team-high six rebounds.

Mason Walters led the Jimmies with a 21-point, 13-rebound double-double. Will Cordes made three 3's and scored 13 points.
