#8 Bellevue takes down Vikings in 3 straight sets

BELLEVUE, NEB. – The Valley City State volleyball team couldn't keep up with No. 8 Bellevue Saturday, falling in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-19.

It is the eighth consecutive sweep for the No. 8 Bruins who move to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in the NSAA. The Vikings fall to 5-13 overall and 2-2 in the NSAA.

Katie Juarez tallied nine kills and Bailey Nelson finished with eight kills to lead the Vikings on Saturday, while Caitlyn Fischbach and Brooke Blessum added five kills each. Blessum also had a hand in three of VCSU's four team blocks Saturday (one solo, two assisted).

Kallene Klever led all players with 16 digs while Sadie Hansen added 24 set assists for VCSU.

Valley City State kept the first set within reach most of the way and remained within three points at 23-20 on a kill from Bailey Nelson. The Vikings stayed alive on a kill from Fishcbach to hold off set point at 24-21 but the Bruins finished with a kill to take the first set 25-21.

Bellevue then committed just two errors and totaled 13 kills en route to the 25-16 victory in set two.

Then in the third set, the Vikings held onto a tie at 16-all but the Bruins ended with a 9-3 rally to take the final set 25-19.

VCSU finished with just three blocks and three service aces Saturday, one of its lowest all season. Bellevue tallied eight blocks and eight service aces, both tied for its second-best this season.

Bellevue's Eve Fountain, who was named last week's NSAA Attacker and Defender of the Week, tallied nine digs and a team-high 12 kills. Jackie Apel contributed 10 kills on a .529 hitting percentage Saturday.

Sierra Athen totaled 14 digs while Taylan Keefer finished with 10. Olivia Galas added 34 set assists and four blocks for the Bruins.
