VALLEY CITY – The top-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team remains undefeated as the Jimmies took down the Vikings in three straight sets Monday, 25-4, 25-19 and 25-14.
Valley City State falls to 11-13 overall and holds a 6-2 conference record. No. 1 University of Jamestown improves to 24-0 and holds a 12-0 record in the GPAC.
Bailey Nelson finished with a team-high eight kills Monday and Katie Juarez added four kills. Kallene Klever totaled a 14 digs and Sadie Hansen added 13 set assists and nine digs for the Vikings. Makayla Wetzel tallied three kills and a team-best three assisted blocks.
The Jimmies totaled 10 service aces Monday, including eight in the first set. Jamestown finished with 45 kills, 60 digs and seven total blocks (10 assists, 2 solo) en route to the 3-0 victory. VCSU finished with just 19 kills, 40 digs and three total blocks (6 assists, 1 solo) Monday.
After being unable to get off the ground in set one, the Vikings kept up with the Jimmies in the second set and held Jamestown to a .154 hitting percentage. VCSU got within two points on a block by Hansen and Wetzel to trail 18-16, but Jamestown finished with a 7-3 run to pull away with the second set, 25-19.
VCSU couldn't come back as Jamestown tallied 17 kills and committed just three errors in the third set. With the Jimmies holding a narrow 11-8 lead, a kill from Anna Holen sparked an 8-2 rally and the Vikings couldn't recover as Jamestown took the final set, 25-14.
Anna Holen paced the Jimmies with 10 kills, 13 digs and four service aces Monday. Megan Gaffaney finished with 22 set assists and three service aces while Jackie Mieklejohn added 19 assists. Ellie Holen led all players with 26 digs for Jamestown.
