Vikings fall to Bellevue in three sets

BELLEVUE, NEB. – The Valley City State volleyball team couldn't match Bellevue's .343 hitting as they fell to the Bruins Sunday, 25-17, 25-12, 25-8.

Bellevue combined for 40 kills and just six attack errors in the conference matchup Saturday. Valley City State falls to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in the NSAA. Bellevue improves to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Kallene Klever tallied a team-high 15 digs for the Vikings Saturday while Morganne Eppard added 12.

Katie Juarez recorded nine kills and nine digs Sunday, and Bailey Nelson added five kills for the Vikings. Clarissa Hilary recorded 15 set assists and six digs.

Bellevue got out to a hot start at home, taking a 19-10 lead in the first set. A Viking timeout seemed to help as the Vikings gained on the Bruins to trail 22-16 on a kill from Clarissa Hilary. It wasn't enough though as Bellevue took the first set, 25-17.

Despite five kills from Katie Juarez in the second set, Valley City State couldn't find a rally as they fell in set two, 25-12. Bellevue finished with their best hitting of the afternoon at .385 in set three to take the win, 25-8.

Andrea Carson paced the Bruins with 11 kills for the Bruins while Olivia Galas tallied 30 set assists and 11 digs for Bellevue. Anna Koehler finished with a game-high 16 digs Sunday.

UP NEXT: Valley City State travels to face Dickinson State on Tuesday, Oct. 13. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
