MBB: VCSU downs Trinity Bible in non-conference action

VALLEY CITY (VCSU) - The Valley City State men's basketball team jumped out to a 30-point halftime lead and coasted to a 96-57 victory over Trinity Bible College on Wednesday night.

The Vikings shot 53 percent in the first half as they built a 53-23 lead at the break. VCSU led by as many as 42 points in the second half en route to the non-conference victory.

Valley City State runs its winning streak to four games with the victory and improves to 12-15 overall (5-9 NSAA). The Vikings have two regular season games remaining: Saturday at University of Jamestown and Feb. 16 at Waldorf University

Trinity Bible College drops to 8-15 overall.

Five different Vikings scored in double digits as part of balanced attack Wednesday night. Ten different Vikings scored in the game, and nine had six or more points. Logan Nelson led the way with 16 points off the bench, while Jake Skelly added 14 points and seven assists. Jayden Ferguson scored 12 points, and both Austin Dunbar and Jouvon Edison finished with 11 points each.

Valley City State shot 51 percent overall (32-63), 47 percent from 3-point range (7-15) and 71 percent at the free throw line (25-35). Trinity Bible College finished the game at 40 percent overall (23-58), 38 percent on 3's (6-16) and 63 percent at the line (5-8).

Valley City State held a 48-24 rebounding advantage, including a 13-1 edge on the offensive glass.

Korey Harris scored 17 points to lead the Lion attack. Josh Bauska added 13 points.

Up next: Valley City State travels to rival University of Jamestown for a crucial conference doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 10. The women tip at 3 p.m. with the men to follow at 5 p.m. Both games will be played at the Harold Newman Arena on the University of Jamestown campus.
