Box Score HAVRE, MONT. – The Valley City State men's basketball team rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to force overtime Friday but couldn't quite complete the comeback in a 76-75 loss to University of Providence.
The Vikings trailed 42-29 early in the second half, but chipped away and finally tied the game at 52-52 with 7:06 remaining. The teams traded baskets down the stretch until tying the game at 61-61 with 1:54 remaining. Neither team was able to find the basket in the final 1:54, sending the game to overtime.
Providence scored the first six points of overtime and never trailed in OT en route to the 76-75 victory.
Valley City State drops to 2-5 after the loss to Providence, an NAIA Division I program.
Jayden Ferguson led the Vikings with 27 points, going 10-for-18 from the field and 4-for-4 on 3's. Justyn Galloway had a big double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Austin Dunbar had 18 points and seven rebounds.
VCSU shot 44 percent from the field (27-61), 40 percent from the 3-point line (6-15) and 68 percent on free throws (15-22). Providence shot 46 percent overall (26-56), 39 percent on 3's (7-18) and 81 percent at the line (17-21).
