Box Score BEMIDJI, MINN. – Bemidji State University made 11 second-half 3-pointers Friday night as the Beavers pulled away from Valley City State en route to an 88-70 men's basketball victory.
The Vikings trailed the NCAA Division II Beavers by just two points at halftime, 37-35, but Bemidji State made five 3-pointers in the first six minutes of the second half to open up a 56-45 lead. The Vikings were within nine points with seven minutes to go, but back-to-back 3's by Bemidji put the game out of reach.
Bemidji State went 11-for-17 from 3-point range in the second half, outscoring VCSU 51-35 over the final 20 minutes. Valley City State drops to 2-4 overall. Bemidji State improves its record to 1-2.
The biggest difference in the game came from 3-point range, where Valley City State shot 8-for-20 and Bemidji State was 17-for-36.
Four Vikings scored in double figures in the loss. Rashad Satahoo shot 5-for-8 from 3-point range as he finished with 17 points. Jayden Ferguson scored 12 points, and Justyn Galloway added 11 points and four rebounds. Austin Dunbar made his season debut with 10 points and six rebounds, while Jouvon Edison had six points and 11 boards. Freshman guard Jake Skelly had a strong game as well with nine points and six rebounds.
Valley City State shot 47 percent overall (24-51), 40 percent on 3's (8-20) and 67 percent at the line (14-21). Bemidji State finished the game at 50 percent overall (29-58), 47 percent on 3's (17-36) and 81 percent on free throws (13-16).
VCSU committed 17 turnovers while Bemidji State turned the ball over 10 times.
Lucas Wendt made three 3's as he scored a game-high 22 points to lead Bemidji State. Bemidji State had five player make two or more 3's in the contest.
