The Valley City State University volleyball team served 11 aces Friday night as the Vikings went on the road and defeated Waldorf University in four sets.

VCSU picked up the conference victory by scores of 25-21, 18-25, 25-15, 25-20 in Forest City, Iowa.

Valley City State improves to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in the North Star Athletic Association. Waldorf drops to 4-25 overall and 1-12 in NSAA play. The Vikings maintain their hold on fourth in the NSAA standings with four conference matches remaining. The top six teams advance to the NSAA Tournament. VCSU is 7-3 over its last 10 conference matches.

Senior hitter Megan Johnson had a big match for the Vikings on Friday, tallying 10 kills and committing just one error. She hit .500 for the match. Clarissa Olson added eight kills and Autumn Johnson had seven.

Junior setter Leah Ruter had 13 assists and led VCSU's serving attack with four aces. Hailie Wilds served three aces and had 12 digs. Polette Medina added two aces and a team-high 15 digs. Rowan Garcia tallied a team-high 18 assists and had six digs.

Neither team hit exceptionally well, but the Vikings held the upper hand with a .144 hitting percentage compared to .086 for Waldorf. VCSU had 11 aces and just seven errors. Waldorf served seven aces and eight errors. The Warriors had 10 blocks while VCSU had only three.

Up next: Valley City State (13-10) continues its road trip with a 2 p.m. match Saturday at Viterbo University – the No. 2 team in the country. The Vikings are currently three matches above .500 with four regular season matches remaining. The last time the Vikings finished a season with a winning record was 2006 when they went 16-15.
