#18 Bellevue sweeps VCSU volleyball

VALLEY CITY – Bellevue University hit .363 Friday night as the No. 18-ranked Bruins downed the Valley City State University volleyball team in straight sets.

The Vikings gave the nationally-ranked Bruins all they could handle in set one, pushing Bellevue the distance in a 25-23 set. From there, the Bruins pulled away with 25-17 and 25-11 victories to close out the match.

Bellevue improves to 14-5 overall and is now 3-0 in the North Star Athletic Association. Valley City State drops to 5-9 overall and 1-1 in NSAA play.

Bellevue's Shayla Scanlan led all hitters with 10 kills in the match. Mikayla Gillespie added eight and both Rachel Wald and Pakalana Helekahi pounded seven kills. Maddie Squiers tallied 33 assists and Scanlan had four block assists.

Clarissa Olson led the Vikings with seven kills and a .463 hitting percentage. Taylor Sharp and Megan Johnson each had five kills. Meagan Schwarzrock totaled 15 assists and an ace. Nicolette Bloomer had two solo blocks, and Jaycee George led the defense with 10 digs.

Up next: Valley City State hosts Presentation College on Saturday at 5 p.m. Bellevue University played at Mayville State University on Saturday.
