Box Score Austin Dunbar scored 21 first-half points Friday night as the Viking men's basketball team won its final tuneup before conference play, 85-58 over Crown College.
Dunbar finished with a season-high 26 points to help VCSU improve to 7-4 overall this season. The Vikings have now won four games in a row heading into their conference openers next weekend.
The Vikings shot 58 percent in the first half en route to a 48-28 halftime lead over Crown. VCSU finished the game at 52 percent overall (33-63), 40 percent from 3-point range (6-15) and 62 percent at the line (13-21).
Four Vikings combined to score 79 of the team's 85 points Friday. Dunbar's 26 points and seven rebounds led the way. Jayden Ferguson poured in 24 points, Rashad Satahoo made four 3's and scored 19 points, and Ellwood Ellenson posted 10 points in the victory.
Points guards Alex Quist and Jason Ralph did not score but came up big for VCSU's offense. Ralph finished with eight assists and four steals, and Quist had four assists in the victory.
VCSU held a 42-34 edge in rebounds and forced 13 turnovers in the game. VCSU committed just eight turnovers. The Vikings held Crown to just 32 percent shooting (21-66).
Up next: VCSU (7-4) begins conference play with road games at Mayville State and Presentation College weekend. VCSU faces Mayville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2. On Saturday, Dec. 3, VCSU is at Presentation College for a 5 p.m. game.
