ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Valley City State men's basketball team suffered its first losing streak of the season Saturday, dropping its second game in a row with a 77-73 loss at Presentation College.
Five different Vikings scored in double figures but it wasn't enough to win a tough conference road game.
Valley City State held a 65-61 lead after Nate Vieira hit a 3-pointer with 5:43 remaining. But the Saints outscored VCSU 16-8 down the stretch to rally for the victory.
The Vikings, ranked No. 12 in Tuesday's NAIA Top 25 Poll, drop to 16-6 overall and 4-2 in the North Star Athletic Association. Presentation College improves to 10-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Vieira went 3-for-5 on 3's Saturday night and led the Vikings with 16 points off the bench. He was one of five Vikings in double figures. Jayden Ferguson scored 15 points for VCSU. Justyn Galloway and Darryl Howel both scored 13 points and Nygel Drury added 10 points for the Vikings.
VCSU shot 51 percent overall (28-55), 33 percent from the 3-point range (5-15) and 75 percent at the free throw line (12-16). The Vikings were hampered by 20 turnovers in the game.
Presentation College shot 45 percent from the field (27-60), 33 percent on 3's (5-15) and 64 percent on free throws (18-28). Donnell Minton led the Saints with 27 points on 10-for-17 shooting.
Saturday's loss marks the first time this year that VCSU has lost two games in a row.
