The Viking volleyball team continued its season trend on Saturday as they split another pair of matches at the Corn Palace Classic in Mitchell, S.D.

VCSU has now split matches on four days this season and have a 4-4 overall record through two weekends of tournament.

The Vikings opened Saturday with a tough five-set loss to host Dakota Wesleyan, but closed the day with an impressive straight set win over Grace University.

Up next: VCSU has its home openers this weekend as they host a tournament with the University of Jamestown. The Vikings will play at Graichen Gym at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday. VCSU was initially scheduled to play a match Tuesday at the University of Mary, but the Marauders canceled that match due to a scheduling conflict.

Dakota Wesleyan 3, VCSU 2
VCSU's Kanani Auwae and Seri Geisler combined for 27 kills but the Vikings fell short after rallying to force a fifth set.

Dakota Wesleyan won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-19, but the Vikings stormed back with 25-21 and 25-18 wins to force the fifth set. Dakota Wesleyan won the decisive set 15-10.

Auwae had 14 kills and Geisler tallied 13 in the loss. Steph Miller had 32 assists and Jaycee George led the team with 31 digs.

Dakota Wesleyan outhit the Vikings .180 to .129. The Vikings out blocked Dakota Wesleyan 7-5.

VCSU 3, Grace University 0
Rachel Hummel tallied 10 kills, two aces and 1.5 blocks as the Vikings defeated Grace in straight sets, 25-17, 25-10, 25-22.

Chelzie-Kristina Ulu had seven kills and two blocks, and Tyler Bulawa racked up six kills and three blocks.

VCSU hit .545 in the second set without an attack error, and hit .250 for the match. The Vikings out blocked Grace 8-1.

Steph Miller had 17 assists and Taylor Balkan added 11 assists. Jaycee George led the team with 19 digs.
