The Viking volleyball team closed the VCSU/Jamestown Invitational with a four-set victory over Waldorf College on Saturday night.
VCSU won the first two sets handily, dropped set three, and then rallied from a 24-22 deficit to win set four in extra points, 26-24.
The Vikings lost a four-set match earlier in the day to Montana State University - Northern.
Valley City State is now 6-6 on the season. The Vikings will be back home this weekend with game on Friday and Saturday. VCSU hosts Presentation College on Friday night at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Vikings host Dakota State at 2 p.m.
MSU-Northern 3, VCSU 1
The Vikings won the first set, 25-23, but Montana State-Northern rallied to win the next three sets, 25-17, 25-22, 25-20.
Chelzie-Kristina Ulu had a big match for the Vikings, tallying 15 kills, five service aces and 4.5 block points. Seri Geisler had 12 kills in the loss. Steph Miller led the Vikings with 32 assists and Jaycee George had 17 digs.
Montana out-hit the Vikings .287 to .175 and out-blocked the Vikings 10-8.
VCSU 3, Waldorf College 1
The Vikings scored the final four points of the match, rallying from a 24-22 deficit in set four to win 26-24. A pair of service aces by Steph Miller put the Vikings up 25-24, and Kanani Auwae put the match away with her ninth kill of the night.
VCSU won the first two sets handily, 25-13 and 25-16. Waldorf rallied for a 25-19 win in set three before the Vikings closed out the match in four.
Chelzie-Kristina Ulu had another big match with 11 kills, four service aces and three blocks. Seri Geisler had 10 kills, and both Auwae and Barbara Ector had nine kills each.
Steph Miller tallied 26 assists, 10 digs and a team-high five aces. Taylor Balkan added 13 assists and three aces. Jaycee George had a team-high 23 digs and added three aces.
VCSU out-hit Waldorf .190 to .141, and out-blocked the Warriors 10-6. The Vikings had 18 service aces in the match, compared to just three for Waldorf.
