The road rims were not kind to the Valley City State men's basketball team Wednesday night.
The Vikings struggled to make shots in the first half in Dickinson, leading to an insurmountable deficit as they lost 66-47 at Dickinson State University.
The Vikings drops to 11-15 overall and 1-6 in the North Star Athletic Association. The Blue Hawks improve to 10-14 overall and 2-5 in the NSAA. The Vikings and Blue Hawks split their two meetings this season.
On Wednesday, the hometown team started hot and the Vikings were never able to recover. VCSU shot just 18.5 percent in the first half (5-27), falling behind 36-12 at the break. The Vikings shot 42 percent in the second half (13-31) and outscored Dickinson State 35-30 in the final 20 minutes.
Jayden Ferguson scored 13 points, and Mac Kroeplin had 12 points for the Vikings. Valley City State finished at 31 percent overall from the field (18-58), 20 percent on 3's (3-15) and 62 percent on free throws (8-13).
The Blue Hawks shot 45 percent from the field (25-56), 36 percent on 3's (10-28) and 67 percent on free throws (6-9). Connor Donaldson led Dickinson with 32 points, which including eight 3-pointers.
