The Viking men's basketball team won a battle after going into overtime with the Northwestern College Red Raiders. After two full periods that ended in a tie at 82-82, the Vikings earned a 96-84 victory. The game was tied 7 different times throughout the game. VCSU came back for the extra period and outscored Northwestern 14-2.

In the second half of regulation Darryl Howell hit two crucial free throws for VCSU to make the score 82-80 with 31 seconds remaining. Northwestern's Jaxon Heinz then answered by making both his free throws with 5 seconds remaining. Howell then had an opportunity to win the game with a shot behind the three-point line that missed and sent them into overtime.

VCSU had three players that scored over 20 points each. Jayden Ferguson finished with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Darryl Howell poured in 24 points, and Justyn Galloway had 22 points and 8 rebounds.

Northwestern's top scorer was Jordan Baker with 27 points, and Colton Kooima and Bryce Moss were also top scorers with 12 points each.

The Vikings shot 40 percent (29-72) in field goals and 28 percent (5-18) from the three-point line. VCSU forced 21 turnovers and kept theirs down to 9.

VCSU now goes to 3-0 overall and Northwestern goes to 0-1 to start their season.

The Vikings (3-0, 1-0 NSAA) will now face #13 ranked Dordt College (1-1) Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
