The Viking volleyball team opened the conference season this weekend with a 1-1 record on the road.
VCSU dropped its conference opener in four games Friday night at University of Jamestown, which is ranked No. 26 in the NAIA Coaches Poll. The Vikings would bounce back with a come-from-behind victory on Saturday night at Dickinson State. After going down 2-0 to Dickinson, VCSU rallied to win the final three games, including a thrilling 16-14 win in the decisive game five.
Up next: VCSU (8-11, 1-1 NSAA) continues conference play Tuesday night at Mayville State University (7-8, 1-1 NSAA). First serve is set for 7 p.m.
VCSU 3, Dickinson State 2
Alley Theroux had 21 kills and both Barb Ector and Kaitlyn Heuring had 10 kills as the Vikings rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Dickinson in five games.
The Vikings dropped the first two games 21-25 and 28-30, but rallied with 25-15, 26-24 and 16-14 victories in the final three games.
Stephanie Miller had 38 assists, eight service aces and 11 digs for the Vikings, who improved to 8-11 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Defensively, Emily Plowman had 19 digs and Jen Wettstein had 12 digs.
Jamestown 3, VCSU 1
The Vikings put up a good fight against the No. 26 team in the country, but the Jimmies came away with the victory, 25-22, 25-17, 25-27, 25-20.
Theroux led the Viking attack with 17 kills and Heuring added nine kills. Megan Good had 20 assists and Stephanie Miller had 19. Jen Wettstein led the defense with 19 digs and Jaycee George added 10 digs.
