The Valley City State University volleyball team fought Concordia College to four sets Tuesday night in the Vikings home opener. But in the end, it was the Cobbers that came away victorious, defeating the Vikings, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19.
Alley Theroux tallied 16 kills and a .250 hitting percentage to lead the Viking attack. Kaitlyn Heuring added six kills and setter Stephanie Miller chipped in five kills. Miller also tallied 29 assists and Jen Wettstein had 26 digs.
Head coach Adam Longmore was pleased after the game, proud of how his squad hung with the NCAA Division III Cobbers in a back-and-forth match. The Vikings played solid throughout the night, but were at their best in game two, tallying 10 kills while committing just three attack errors in the game.
The loss drops the Vikings to 2-7 on the season. It was an exhibition match for Concordia.
