Viking volleyball goes 3-1 in Nebraska

The Viking volleyball team rolled to two more victories on Saturday, completing a 3-1 weekend at the College of St. Mary's Tournament in Omaha, Neb.

VCSU beat both Southwestern College and York College in four games on Saturday, following up a sweep of AIB on Friday. VCSU's only loss of the weekend came in four sets against Avila University in the tournament opener.

Viking hitters Alley Theroux and Barbara Ector paced the Viking attack all weekend. Ector (55 kills) and Theroux (53 kills) tallied 108 kills in the four matches. Theroux had the biggest match of the weekend, banging home 23 kills in the victory over Southwestern College. Setter Stephanie Miller set a career high with 47 assists in that match and finished with 131 total assists during the tournament (32.75/match). Ector reached double-digit kills in all four matches.

The 3-1 weekend improves Valley City's record to 7-10 overall. VCSU has gone 7-4 over its last 11 matches.

Up next: Valley City State opens North Star Athletic Association conference play on Friday, Sept. 19 at University of Jamestown. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
