Vikings drop NSAA semifinal at Jamestown

The Viking volleyball season came to a close Wednesday as VCSU lost to University of Jamestown in the North Star Athletic Association semifinals.

The top-seeded Jimmies held home court at the Hansen Center with a 25-8, 25-20, 25-14 victory over the No. 4-seeded Vikings.

Valley City State ends the season with a 15-18 record under first-year head coach Adam Longmore. That ties the most wins in a season for VCSU since the Vikings went 16-15 back in 2006.

Jamestown started fast Wednesday night, scoring the first 11 points en route to a 25-8 game one victory. In game two, it was the Vikings' turn to start fast as they built an early 6-2 lead behind a serving run from Kaitlyn Heuring. From there, the teams battled in game two before the Jimmies created some separation late and won 25-20.

Alley Theroux had eight kills Wednesday and Barbara Ector had six kills for the Vikings. Kaitlyn Heuring served three aces; Steph Miller had 13 assists; and Jen Wettstein led the defense with 11 digs.

Valley City State University graduates three seniors from this year's squad: Heuring, Theroux and Wettstein.
