The Valley City State volleyball team moved back to .500 in conference play with a four-game victory over Dickinson State on Wednesday night, 25-16, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20.
The Vikings improved to 14-15 overall with the home victory and are now 4-4 in the North Star Athletic Association. Dickinson State drops to 2-25 overall and finishes conference play with a 2-8 record.
The Vikings served up 13 service aces in the match as Kaitlyn Heuring, Emily Plowman, Stephanie Miller and Jaycee George all recorded three aces each.
Alley Theroux led the Viking attack with 14 kills. Heuring and Jodi Wilde each had nine kills and Barbara Ector added eight kills. Megan Good tallied 20 assists and Stephanie Miller had 16 assists. Jen Wettstein dug 13 balls and Jaycee George had 10 digs.
Brenna Hansen, Tessa Sian and Shelby Gustafson all recorded seven kills each to lead Dickinson's attack. Natasha Malana led the defense with 19 digs.
Valley City State has two conference matches remaining. The Vikings play Friday at Presentation College and Saturday at Dakota State. VCSU is guaranteed at least the No. 4 seed for the conference tournament, but could still move up to the No. 2 or No. 3 seed. The No. 2 seed would receive a first-round bye, while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds would both host a first-round match Nov. 8.
Dickinson is locked into the No. 5 seed for the conference tournament. The Blue Hawks will hit the road for a first-round match on Nov. 8.
