The Viking and Comet volleyball teams played to four sets Tuesday in front of a raucous Graichen Gymnasium crowd. The Vikings took game one on their home court, but the Comets won the last three for a 3-1 conference victory.
Valley City State University rode early momentum to an impressive 25-16 win in game one. The Comets then took the final three games by identical scores of 25-22.
Valley City State drops to 13-15 overall and 3-4 in North Star Athletic Association play. The Comets improve to 17-11 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
VCSU's Alley Theroux led all hitters with 19 kills in the match. Barb Ector added 11 kills and Jodi Wilde chipped in eight for the Vikings.
Mayville State was led by Josette Glatt with 13 kills and Kaitlyn Timian with 10 kills. Katie Wangberg recorded a double-double for Mayville State, tallying 32 assists and 13 digs.
Stephanie Miller had 24 assists for VCSU and Megan Good had 21 assists.
